Thallus verrucose to verruculose, yellowish grey to greenish grey, epruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus not visible. Apothecia sessile, 0.3–0.7 mm diam.; disc dark orange-brown to red-brown, epruinose or slightly grey-pruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thin, verruculose. Cortex hyaline, inspersed with small crystals, 10–30 µm thick laterally and basally. Amphithecium with large crystals insoluble in KOH (pulicaris-type). Parathecium hyaline, 15 µm thick, with numerous small crystals insoluble in KOH. Epihymenium reddish brown, c. 10–15 µm thick, with numerous small crystals (pulicaris-type); pigmentation and crystals soluble in KOH. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 10.5–14.5 × 7.5–10.0 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C+ orange, Pd+ pale orange; containing arthothelin (major), usnic acid (major), atranorin (minor), chloroatranorin (minor), 2,5-dichloronorlichexanthone (minor) and 4,5-dichloronorlichexanthone (minor). | ||
A corticolous species on various trees including Acacia, Alphitonia, Ficus and Rhizophora in rainforest and mangroves. It is known from N.T., Qld and N.S.W. and the North Island of New Zealand. | ||
